The SBC College Football Connection is a traveling exhibit that visits college campuses and football games across all of SBC's regions to showcase SBC's roster of products and services to football fans.
In exchange for their personal data, each visitor to the exhibit is given a lanyard with a special SBC College Football Connection gift card. Each gift card has a unique 10-digit bar code printed on the reverse side. Visitors take the card into the SBC exhibit truck, a walk-through semi-trailer, where they view displays, demonstrations, and receive hand-outs of SBC products and services.
At the end of the trailer, after they have had a chance to view all that SBC has to offer, the visitor scans the card at one of several special bar code scanners. A display monitor above the scanner shows them which special gift, chosen randomly from a customizable prize list, they have won. The kiosk prints a ticket showing the name of the prize, which consumers take to a prize collection table located outside the trailer. The kiosk records scanned numbers into a database so that that number can only be used once. On the kiosk administration screen, SBC staff can enter prize names and quantities as well as view reports on the total number of scanned cards for any given day.
To extend the promotion beyond the college football season, the exhibit and kiosk application was re-skinned as the "SBC Experience" (and later, with the merger of SBC and AT&T, the "AT&T Experience") which continues to tour the country making stops at special local area events.
